Approve the Participation of Stewart Middle School in the "Unlocking Earth's Secrets From Space" Grant Project (Student Services and Federal Programs)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The University of Central Florida awarded the "Unlocking Earth's Secrets from Space" project to the University of South Florida (USF), with Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) as a partner.  Grant funds will be utilized to develop space studies courses for the 6th, 7th and 8th grades at Stewart Middle School, highlighting NASA's past, present, and future.  The project will expand the use of mentoring and field excursions using state of the art technology.  The project began on October 1, 2010, and will end December 31, 2011.  Of the total amount awarded, $10,500 is allocated for project services rendered by HCPS.

• Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Funding for this project is provided by the University of Central Florida, Award # UCF-01-0000211803.  USF is the grant's fiscal agent and project funds reside at USF.  HCPS will invoice USF as outlined in the Subagreement.
EVALUATION
Project research and data will be shared with the district's Department of Assessment and Accountability on a regular basis.
