Board Overview of the Aspen Institute and the Charles A. Dana Center Common Core State Standards Pilot Implementation Project (Student Services and Federal Programs Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Hillsborough County Public Schools was chosen as one of three districts in the United States to participate in the Aspen Institute/Dana Center Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Pilot Implementation Project. The importance of this project to the district as well as the nation is to identify strategic levers necessary for the implementation of CCSS to better inform a national model.
The K-12 CCSS represent a major advance in standards for Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Programs. They are grounded in evidence about what it takes for high school graduates to be ready for college and careers and build on the finest state and international standards. They also provide a clear and focused progression of learning from kindergarten to high school graduation that will give teachers, administrators, parents and students the information they need for student success. The Common Core State Standards offer an unprecedented opportunity for states across the nation to improve upon their education policies and practices and achieve systemwide reform. |
