Approve Amendment 1 of Subcontract and Statements of Work (SOW) 5 through 8 with NCS Pearson (Pearson), Inc., for Proofreading and Transcription Services for Students Who Are Blind and Visually Impaired (Curriculum and Instruction Division, Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired – FIMC-VI)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We request approval of Amendment 1 of the subcontract and SOW 5 through 8 with Pearson, which extends timelines and defines activities related to the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Amendment 1, Paragraph 3 of the subcontract extends the original subcontract effective October 20, 2009 through July 27, 2011, to November 30, 2013, between Pearson and The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida.  The following activities are described for the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 FCAT administrations in SOW 5 through 8:

 

  • Conduct third-party proofreading of both the contracted and uncontracted Braille version of the FCAT Sunshine State Standards (SSS) or FCAT 2.0 for Grades 3-10 and Retakes, Reading/Mathematics/Writing/ Science/Algebra 1/Biology 1/Geometry;
  • Provide the proofreading/editing of the Braille Scripts, the Braille Notes, and the Test Administration Manual (Braille section) for the FCAT SSS or FCAT 2.0 for Grades 3-10 and Retakes, Reading/Mathematics/Writing/Science/Algebra 1/Biology 1/Geometry;
  • Provide the proofreading/editing of the FCAT Sample Tests and Braille Notes for Grades 3-8 and Grade 10 Math; Grades 3-10 Reading; Grades 5, 8, and 11 Science; and
  • Transcribe student Braille responses onto scannable print answer books for the FCAT SSS or FCAT 2.0 for Grades 3-10 and Retakes, Reading/Mathematics/Writing/Science/Algebra 1/Biology1/Geometry.

Pearson will pay the district $130,000 for services provided and the funds will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget (Project 2117).  There is no additional cost to the district.
