| Approve the Naming of the Covered Playcourt at West Tampa Elementary School | |
| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| The West Tampa Elementary School faculty, staff and community members have requested that the covered playcourt at West Tampa Elementary School be named the "Coach Garcia Playcourt" in honor of Mr. Michael V. Garcia.
Mr. Garcia began his employment in 1972 as a physical education teacher at MacFarlane Park Elementary School. In 1985 he transferred to West Tampa Elementary from where he is currently retiring. During his 24 years at West Tampa Elementary School he has secured community resources and fostered a strong connection between the school and the surrounding neighborhood. He has served as a tireless community liaison, parent advocate and a mentor and tutor for at-risk students. |
