SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Renewal Workforce Education Fee Schedule for Adult Student Tuition, Financial Aid, and Capital Improvement for Postsecondary Technical and Adult Education Programs, 2011/2012 (Career, Technical, and Adult Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
We request that the hourly tuition rates for postsecondary technical and adult education programs be approved as shown on the attached Workforce Education Fee Schedule which falls within the range mandated by the Florida legislature. The 2011 General Appropriations Act amended the tuition and fees policies for 2011/2012. The recommended hourly tuition rate is based on state required fees, student intent, and student residency status. We request approval of this document for the 2011/2012 school year. Although intended to be effective July 1, each year documents which include tuition and fees are delayed by several factors related to the establishment of those rates: the recommendation of the legislature, the passing of the General Appropriations Act, the signing/line-item veto of the Governor, the official fee memo from the Department of Education indicating the acceptable range of fees, calculations and recommendation of local fee schedule, and school board approval of recommended tuition and fees. The new schedule of tuition and fees is implemented for students enrolling after the date of approval by the School Board. The fee structure provides the best possible adult general education and high-skill, high-wage occupational training in the most cost-effective delivery of services. It has been the philosophy of the district to keep tuition and fees for our students at the lowest amount possible while maintaining the highest quality programs. The statutory reference related to Workforce Education fees is Section 1009.22, F.S. |
