Last summer we began work to fill a subsurface void on the property of Bryan Elementary School, Plant City, that began on the City property and extended to the school property.  Throughout the school year, the Facilities Division and Safety Office have been actively monitoring the situation with frequent inspections.

In May 2011 our insurance company hired an engineer to do another complete evaluation of the site and affected buildings.  At that time, pinning (supporting) and grouting (below ground concrete filling) of areas on the site was deemed necessary.  A work plan was developed and contracts issued by US Belfor, Property Restoration Group, who has been hired by the insurance company and is working as the construction manager in conjunction with our staff.  Work is commencing at this time.  Major work will be completed before the beginning of the school year and affected buildings will be certified for safe occupancy.  One building will be demolished.  This building contains two 4th grade classrooms.  The students and staff will be accommodated in other buildings on campus.  Cosmetic work will continue after the school year begins and will not affect student occupancy.  

Maximum financial impact: $100,000 insurance deductible from non-recurring dollars.  However, a reduction in the deductible is being negotiated by Risk Management because the event is from a previous occurrence.
