Recognition of Hillsborough County Public Schools Elementary, Middle, and High School Orchestra Students and Teachers for Breaking the Guinness World Record for the Largest Ensemble of String Instruments (Elementary/Middle/Secondary Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On May 11, 2011, 866 Hillsborough student musicians and teachers took part in a whimsical challenge earning a place in the Guinness World Records for the largest ensemble of string instruments. The record represents the greatest number of people playing the same tune simultaneously on string instruments at the same time at the same venue.
The orchestra gathered at Williams Middle Magnet School for International Studies and played Pachelbel's Canon in D on the violin, viola, cello and bass. Under the coordination of Mr. Robert Halczyn, Orchestra Director at Williams, the orchestra smashed the previous record holder of 392 string players set April 10, 2010, at Spring Jam' 10 in Kirkland, Washington. |
