SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Review and Discuss Alternatives to Redistrict School Board Member Voting Districts
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Florida Law (2006-333) requires that the single member residence areas shall be reapportioned by the district school board by resolution, in consultation with the county supervisor of elections, in the odd-numbered years immediately following each decennial census in accordance with Section 1001.36(2) Florida Statutes.  The office of the Supervisor of Elections and the Planning Commission staff prepared alternative member district maps to equalize the population and comply with the requirements of the Federal Voting Rights Acts.  These maps have been brought to high schools in each of the five member districts to make them available for public inspection, review, and comment. Meetings with other smaller groups, as requested, have also been held.  Appendix G has been revised.

The School Board will review the alternatives presented and the public comments received to date and discuss them.

A public hearing will be held on October 4, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. to consider and adopt the revised member districts.
