SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Design Development Phase for Modular Addition and Remodeling at Brewster Adult School
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On May 3, 2011, the Board approved the use of Community Investment Tax proceeds for replacement of obsolete and non-economically repairable portable facilities with modular buildings. Replacement of obsolete portables at Brewster Adult School is required. To reduce the number of modular buildings required for replacement, remodeling of the space vacated by the relocation of GED program activities to Gary Adult High School is needed in conjunction with the portable replacement. District staff combined the portable demolition, modular installation and permanent building remodeling at Brewster into a single project and selected Long & Associates Architects/Engineers, Inc. and Halfacre Construction Company from the approved Continuing Services Consultants list to provide design and construction management services. The scope of work provides for disconnection and demolition of 13 portables and an associated walkway, and site work and utility connections for ten classroom modulars and two gang restrooms at Brewster. Remodeling of Room 203 and adjacent areas on the second floor of Building 1 at Brewster into two classrooms and an exit corridor, to include replacement of the existing egress stair with a new stairwell, is also included in the project scope. Project completion is scheduled for December 2011. Approval of the Design Development Phase will allow the architect to proceed with construction documents. |
