Integration of Industry Certifications into the Career and Technical Education Programs (Career and Technical Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Initiative:  The Career and Professional Education (CAPE) Act requires that each school district have one Career Academy which integrates industry certification into their curriculum. Each industry certification earned by a student has an impact on high school grades and has the potential to bring in additional FTE funding to the school district. This Teaching and Learning presentation will highlight how teachers have integrated industry certifications into their programs and how these certifications have impacted our students future careers.

Goals:  The 2011/2012 school year marks the 5th year in which industry certifications are implemented into Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum with a goal of continually increasing earned student certifications each year.

In the 2010/2011 school year, our district had 223 High School CAPE Academies in which students earned over 1500 industry certifications.

Targeted Population:  The targeted group for the Industry Certifications is secondary students enrolled in the Career and Technical Education programs.

Timeline:  This initiative has been in existence for five years, beginning with the 2007/2008 school year. The initiative is projected to continue indefinitely.
