Recognize Webb Middle School Students Who Rescued Lost Hiker, Francis Netto (Deputy Superintendent)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
A 6th grade English language learner class from Webb Middle School was attending Nature's Classroom on Friday, September 23, 2011, participating in a river excursion, when they spotted the missing hiker, Francis Netto. While the students floated in a flat-bottom boat down the Hillsborough River learning about plants, animals, and insects, some of them noticed Francis Netto, whom they recognized as the subject of a Sheriff's Office search. Mr. Netto was standing in the water, so the boat operator pulled up next to him and the students helped him into the boat and gave him water. They took him to the Nature's Classroom boat ramp where deputies and paramedics took over. The students and their instructors then resumed their trip down the river.
