| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| The Security Services Department has 28 vehicles for use with its team. Four vehicles have been taken out of service over the past year and deemed not repairable (these vehicles have not been replaced.) Four have an average odometer reading of 207,773 miles and repair costs that warrant their replacement. Ten of the current Security Services fleet are Crown Victorias.
Crown Victorias have not been offered to the public since 2008, only selling to fleet customers, such as police departments and taxi companies. The Crown Victoria remained popular for these applications due to its rear-wheel drive layout. The Transportation Department agrees with the Crown Victoria's durability, cost, and performance. The last of the Crown Victorias were made this year and are in short supply. Hillsborough County Public Schools has an opportunity to purchase eight Crown Victorias at the prices offered on Bid #10-18-0907 Pursuit, Administrative Non-Pursuit, Utility Vehicles, Trucks, and Vans, and Other Fleet Equipment Between Various Vendors and the Florida Sheriffs Association, Florida Association of Counties, and Florida Fire Chiefs' Association, Tallahassee, Florida. The above bid agreement expired on September 30, 2011; however, the dealership will honor pricing and there are no Ford offerings for similar vehicles on the new 2012 Sheriffs' bid. |
