Recognition of Target and the Heart of America Foundation for the Library Makeover Project at Foster Elementary School (Elementary Education - Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
In partnership with the Heart of America Foundation, the Target School Library Makeover Program is part of Target's commitment to helping children read proficiently upon completion of third grade. By the end of 2011, Target will have transformed a total of 118 elementary school libraries, representing an investment of more than $22 million. One the schools selected this year was our own Foster Elementary.
Over the period of about a month, Target and the Heart of America Foundation worked to transform the library at Foster Elementary. On September 21,2011, members of the Foster Elementary community and the school district, along with Target, the Heart of America Foundation, and 150 volunteers revealed the school's newly redesigned library to students and teachers for the first time. The redesigned library features 2,000 new books, eco-friendly design elements, new furniture, carpet and shelves, and a technology upgrade. Each student and his or her siblings also received seven books to take home and add to their own collection. |
