SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Adoption of Proclamation, "ASVAB Month" - November 2011 (Deputy Superintendent)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request the School Board adopt the attached proclamation designating the month of November 2011 as "ASVAB Month" in Hillsborough County Public Schools.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Career Exploration Program (CEP) is designed to help students identify and explore potential careers within the various branches of the military.  The ASVAB is one of the most widely used, multiple-aptitude tests in the world developed and maintained by the Department of Defense.  The ASVAB test is administered at our high schools and career centers to juniors and seniors and tests verbal, math, science, and technical skills.

Our district supports the administration of the ASVAB and encourages students to sit for the test.  Additionally, all of our Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) programs promote the ASVAB.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Demonstrate consistent and effective teaching methods • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum • Recruit, develop, and retain a highly effective, diverse workforce • Provide for a district-wide succession planning structure and visible career ladder
