Approve Reassignment of Attendance Areas for Walker Middle Magnet School, Roland Park K-8 Magnet School, and Franklin Middle Magnet School Attendance Areas |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY |
Walker Middle School, Roland Park K-8 School, and Franklin Middle Schools were designated as magnet schools beginning with the 2011-2012 school year. The assigned attendace area boundaries for these schools no longer apply because magnet school students are assigned by lottery. As a result, students living in the former attendance areas either participate in the Choice Program, or they are assigned by Pupil Planning and Placement to nearby schools with capacity. In addition, at community meetings last year parents requested that they have an assigned attendance area. This recommendation is to reassign these attendance areas to nearby schools that have adequate capacity to accommodate the students. This supports the transportation patterns that are in place for the 2011-2012 school year. |
