SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Agreement of Understanding with Community Work Exposure (CWE) Sites for Students with Disabilities (Exceptional Student Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request School Board approval of two initial CWE sites, Beaux Arts Gallery and Winthrop Town Center.  Upon approval, this Agreement will begin on April 16, 2012, and end on June 30, 2013.  This innovative program for students with disabilities will be introduced and supported by the district.  CWE is a career exploration experience that offers students with disabilities an opportunity to job shadow professionals in different careers.  Twice a week, students will experience working on specific tasks as they rotate through several businesses.  Riverview High School will pilot this initiative and provide training opportunities for students to gain essential employment skills.  The intent of this program is to provide exposure to multiple positions and not mastery of any given position.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Motivate students to become responsible learners
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
The Agreement of Understanding is non-financial.  The estimated cost for transporting students to and from the business sites is approximately $15,600 and is included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
EVALUATION
Business evaluations will serve as an integral part of assessing the efficacy of the program.  Businesses involved will be given quarterly evaluations for completion, with the final evaluations to be conducted no later than May 28, 2013.
