Approve First Amendment to Sublease Between the Museum of Science & Industry, Inc. (MOSI) and the School Board of Hillsborough County for the MOSI Partnership School Site

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On July 17, 2007, the School Board of Hillsborough County and the Museum of Science & Industry, Inc. entered into a Sublease Agreement for space for a school site at the Whitney Andrews Lang Center for Learning at MOSI.  The current Sublease is for approximately 23,000 +/- square feet for the MOSI Partnership School location with an expansion option on the third floor.  In lieu of this expansion space, the School will add 2,150 square feet on the ground floor of the North Building for the its media center; additional storage under the stairway and add two classrooms on the second floor of the South Building, as depicted on Exhibit A.  The additional square footage on the ground floor was necessary because Hillsborough County closed the public library in the main MOSI building.

This Amendment also includes the School Board's option to extend the term of the Sublease to July 31, 2017 and the rent will remain the same with the inclusion of the additional square footage.  All other terms and conditions of the original Sublease will remain in full force and effect.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)

The approval of the First Amendment to Sublease between the Museum of Science & Industry, Inc. and the School Board of Hillsborough County for the MOSI Partnership School location will have no financial impact to the School Board.  The annual lease amount of $300,000 remains unchanged.
