| Approve the Recommendation to Purchase iPads and Related Mac Products from Apple, Inc. (Sole-Source Provider) to be Used at Ferrell Girls Preparatory Academy and Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy (Administration Division) | |
| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| We are seeking approval for the purchase of iPads, curricular applications, software, and supporting Mac equipment for Ferrell Girls Preparatory Academy and Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy to accommodate the increased number of students who will attend both schools for the 2012/2013 school year.
When Ferrell Girls Preparatory Academy and Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy opened as newly-constituted magnet schools in August 2011, each student was issued an iPad for daily use at school. The use of the iPad technology has been fully integrated at both schools enabling the students to use cutting edge technology to increase student engagement, accelerate learning and expand global access to the world. Hillsborough County Public Schools administrators and teachers have conducted extensive research and development of curricular applications and materials for use on the iPads. Apple Inc. is considered a sole source for this application as authorized Apple resellers are not authorized to sell standard Apple hardware, software, and service products to public educational institutions in the United States. |

| Budgeted funds of $150,000 are available in project 6995 to purchase the equipment described above for Ferrell Girls Preparatory Academy; funds of $150,000 are in project 6996 to purchase the equipment described above for Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy. | |
| EVALUATION | |
| At the end of the 2012/2013 school year, a survey will be administered among the teachers and students to gather information regarding this technology integration, and a thorough review of each curricular application will be conducted, as well as the procedures implemented for the iPad usage at both schools. | |
