SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve a New Evaluation for Assistant Principals to be used Beginning in the 2012-2013 School Year

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

A district committee consisting of teachers, school based administrators, and district personnel have recommended a new evaluation for assistant principals. As the attached pie charts illustrate, the assistant principal evaluation closely mirrors the principal evaluation. Also attached is the draft of the Assistant Principal Evaluation Handbook.

The proposed evaluation contains four elements drawn directly from the principal evaluation:

5% of the assistant principal's evaluation will be based upon the school's attendance

5% is based upon the school's behavior management data

10% reflects the value-added scores of the school's Level 1 and 2 students

30% is derived from the value-added scores of all of the school's students

In addition, there are three elements unique to the evaluation of assistant principals:

15% of the score is based on faculty input (see page 10 of the handbook)

25% is based on a rubric completed by the principal (page 14 of the handbook)

10% is based on the role-specific responsibilities of each assistant principal; the principal will rate each assistant principal based upon his/her responsibilities at the school

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Recruit, develop, and retain a highly effective, diverse workforce • Provide for a district-wide succession planning structure and visible career ladder
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
No Cost
EVALUATION

The evaluation will be reviewed and revised by the committee on an annual basis.
