SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Accreditation of Aparicio-Levy Technical Center by the Commission on Occupational Education (Workforce and Continuing Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Aparicio-Levy Technical Center has been awarded national accreditation status from the Commission on Occupational Education (COE).  Aparicio-Levy’s accreditation is approved as of June 9, 2012, for the maximum allowable six years making the reaffirmation process scheduled for the 2017/2018 school year.  Initial accreditation can only be sought after the school has a performance track record.  It is an arduous process which took two years to complete.  As this process covers every aspect of the school’s operations and performance, this accreditation could not have been accomplished without the assistance of various departments in the Administration, Business, Curriculum and Instruction, Facilities, Human Resources, and Information and Technology divisions.

The process includes an application for candidacy, a candidacy visit, a candidacy approval vote by the Commission, a self-study report, a preliminary visit by the team leader, a team visit, a team report, the school’s response, and a final accreditation approval vote by the Commission. As COE is a national accreditation agency, and to insure objectivity, each visiting team member should be from a different state and no team member may be from the state of the host school.

The self-study and COE team visitation study address accreditation requirements from two perspectives.  First, the operations of the school, learning resources, budget, staffing, and support services are assessed in a manner similar to that of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  Secondly, each occupational training program is assessed for compliance with COE standards.  Some of the standards for each program are industry endorsed curriculum, student retention and completion rates, job placement rates, documented employer participation, and licensure exam pass rates.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Dues and fees are paid to COE from the school’s internal accounts and from Workforce Education Funds.
EVALUATION
Although the accreditation is approved for six years, an annual performance report is required to document continued compliance with COE standards.
