Recognition of Howard W. Blake High School of the Arts – National Art and Creative Writing Contest Winners (Administration Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Blake High School of the Arts photography and creative writing students enter national competitions and took top honors.

Three students from Blake High School swept the National Coastal America Ocean Art Contest, 9-12 grade photography division. The students’ photos were displayed in Washington, DC during Capitol Hill Ocean Week. Ivonne Orjuela won 1st Place, Katie Georgas, 2nd Place, and Samantha Rios-Arizala, 3rd Place.

Five creative writing students won silver medals at the National Scholastic Alliance of Arts & Writing Awards.  The students were honored at Carnegie Hall for their poetry and prose collections. Winners were Elizabeth Curley, Michelle Farina, Amanda Vasquez, Chandler Wilson, and Lindsay Wright.

Blake High School became a magnet high school in 1997 and is home to 898 arts students in grades 9-12. Students travel from all over Hillsborough County to attend the Blake High School arts program.
