Approve the 2011-2012 Energy Conservation Report, Energy Mentor Incentives, and School Incentives and Penalties | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The attached annual Energy Conservation Report (revised attachment) summarizes the conservation efforts of Hillsborough County Public Schools. During the past year, the district’s “unadjusted” consumption per square foot increased from 13.1 kWh/sqft to 13.51 kWh/sqft, representing an approximate 3% increase. However, after applying a consumption adjustment to take into account last year's warmer temperatures, the conservation efforts remain equal to last year's rate. Electrical costs were reduced by $378,852, which represents a 1% reduction from the previous year. Included in the report is an update on the thermal energy storage (ice) plants. These plants continue to avoid electrical costs of approximately $130,000 annually. This amount represents savings over conventional chilled water systems that require larger chillers. To date, these plants have avoided approximately $308,000 in electrical costs. |
