Recognition of the Warren Tracy Beginning Social Studies Teacher of the Year for Florida (Secondary Education-Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Warren Tracy Beginning Social Studies Teacher of the Year for Florida, sponsored by McDougal Littell, is to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of social studies teachers new to the field of education who engage students in meaningful lessons to increase students' awareness, are involved with school/community activities, and are leaders on behalf of education. 

This year's winner is in her third year with Hillsborough County Public Schools and teaches United States History and Law Studies.  The accomplishments that led to her selection include service on the district's textbook adoption committee, Freedom High School's  liaison with the Hillsborough Education Foundation, and sponsor of Freedom's International Student's Club, and Operation Smile Club which helps fund cleft palate surgeries for underprivileged children. Her students participated in a pilot program where they teleconferenced with students in Kabul, Afghanistan.  Her Law Studies students have participated in mock trial competitions and have visited the U.S. Federal Court in Tampa at the invitation of the Honorable Judge Dick Greco, Jr.
