Approve the Memorandum of Understanding Between The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida and Florida Hospital Tampa 
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As part of its mission to provide health and educational opportunities for students of Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS), University Community Hospital, Inc., d/b/a/ Florida Hospital Tampa (FHT) desires to enter into a voluntary collaboration with HCPS to offer educational and service support to the following schools:

  • Boys Preparatory Academy at Franklin Middle Magnet School
  • Girls Preparatory Academy at Ferrell Middle Magnet School
  • Dunbar Elementary Magnet School
  • Shaw Elementary School
  • Sligh Middle Magnet School
  • Tampa Bay Technical High School

FHT volunteer activities may include hospital externships and shadowing opportunities for students; observation of surgical procedures at Pepin Heart Institute; field trips to FHT, Wound Care Center Florida Hospital Carrollwood, USF and other local educational entities (to include funding as needed and available); mentors; classroom clinical speakers; workshops; mobile well care and immunizations; backpacks; funding for educational projects, classroom equipment, teacher mini-grants, technology, books, clothing and health programming; speakers for annual Great American Teach-In and annual Career and College Fest; volunteers and funding for annual Feed a Family Campaign; volunteers for school health fairs and similar events.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Motivate students to become responsible learners

EVALUATION
An assessment will be conducted annually in August, beginning in 2013.
