SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Wireless Infrastructure Plan for Sites (Business Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The Technology Plan, approved by the School Board in June 2012, included providing campus-wide wireless access to allow anywhere – anytime mobile access throughout the school sites. This agenda item covers the expansion of wireless networks in all schools. The estimated budget for the completion of this project is attached.
The implementation of this project will allow mobile computing devices, E-Readers and tablets to access the network. In addition, wireless will allow the option of “Bring Your Own Device” programs to be implemented to allow teachers and students to utilize their own devices for teaching and learning. The wireless network infrastructure will meet the PARCC (The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) standards for wireless connectivity for online assessment. Due to the size and limited time schedule to complete this project (Spring 2014), the Procurement Department and the Facilities Division will work together to provide the infrastructure for a wireless installation. The Procurement Department will issue a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify those vendors that have the ability to provide services (qualified vendors). To provide more vendor opportunities, the district has been divided into geographic areas. The Facilities Division will obtain quotes from the qualified vendors for designated sites and schools by area. The qualified vendor who provides the lowest quote will provide the services for the designated area. Additionally, the Procurement Department will advertise bids and obtain School Board approval for the related hardware to maximize offered discounts. |
