Approve one-year agreement for legal services between the School Board and Karen C. D. Gabbadon, for legal representation in the areas of change of placements and employee termination hearings, retroactive to May 4, 2013, at the hourly rate of $150 per hour
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The School Board attorney recommends the approval of Karen C.D. Gabbadon for the legal representation in the areas of change of placements and employee termination hearings, retroactive to May 4, 2013, at the hourly rate of $150.00 per hour.  Ms. Gabbadon was the designated primary attorney providing services to the Board under a contract with her previous firm, Stiles & Grace, which no longer exists.  The agreement will provide for additional legal services, representing the superintendent in employee dismissal hearings brought before the Board as well as change of placement hearings.  Retroactivity is requested based on the School Board attorney’s oversight in failing to prepare this item in a timely manner. Ms. Gabbadon has provided services after the expiration of the last agreement on April 3, 2013.
