Presentation of School Recycling Awards (Facilities Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

A competition is held annually to determine which schools generate the most pounds of recycling per student. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in the high school, middle, and non-traditional categories.  Elementary schools are divided into three divisions according to enrollment size and the top three schools in each of the divisions are recognized.  There will also be an award to the Overall District Champion and the Recycling Coach of the Year.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum • Recruit, develop, and retain a highly effective, diverse workforce • Align the performance management system with the district’s priorities • Demonstrate best financial practices • Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety including students, employees, visitors, facilities, transportation, and health • Construct and maintain facilities that create an environment conducive to teaching and learning
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)

Awards consist of trophies, a cash award deposited in a school account, and ten tee shirts at each school being recognized.  The trophies and tee shirts are being donated by Republic Services, the vendor for recycling services for the district.  The cash awards, totaling $2,250, will be derived from rebates generated through the recycling program.
