Approve Eight Component Additions to the Master In-service Plan (Instructional Support Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Florida Statute Section 1012.98 (4)(b)(4) requires that each district School Board develop and maintain an in-service educational training program.  Descriptions of training programs offered for in-service credit are incorporated into the Master In-service Plan.  The revision of the Master In-service Plan is approved annually by the School Board and Florida Department of Education.  During the year, specific training needs arise that require new courses to be developed and added to the master plan. 

The components listed below are being added to the Master In-Service Plan as part of the Teacher Incentive Fund Grant. 

  • POWER 2:  Advancing Teacher Pedagogy (Practice Perfect)
  • POWER 2:  Higher Order Thinking 2
  • POWER 2:  Total Participation Techniques
  • POWER 2:  Engaging Students by Incorporating a Framework for Understanding Poverty (Engaging with Poverty in Mind)
  • POWER 3:  Advancing Teacher Pedagogy (Practice Perfect)
  • POWER 3:  Engaging Students by Incorporating a Framework for Understanding Poverty (Engaging with Poverty In Mind)
  • POWER 3:  Higher Order Thinking 2
  • POWER 3:  Total Participation Techniques

A major focus of this grant is to design new in-service courses that will improve teacher effectiveness and impact student performance.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The cost of these courses will be covered from various budget sources:  Title I, Title II, Teacher Incentive Fund, and Part 1.  This cost is included in the estimated $6 million budget for professional development.
EVALUATION
Required Department of Education evaluations are completed at the conclusion of each training and reported to the state by June 30, 2014.  The results of the evaluations will be captured through the Professional Development System.
