Recognize the Literacy Excellence of District and School Literacy Leaders, Reading Coaches, and Reading Teachers of the Year (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Ten district employees have been nominated and selected by their peers and district personnel across four broad categories of literacy awards as the district’s 2012-2013 school year winners. Each has demonstrated excellence in promoting literacy in his or her respective area of expertise.   We take great pride in our strong literacy programs and commend these literacy leaders as we increase academic and literacy expectations for all students. These district winners were submitted to the Department of Education for state level review. Five of our ten district nominees took top state honors.  Attached are the district and state winners.

Our state level winners were recognized at the Florida Reading Association Conference in Orlando on September 28, 2013. 

State Literacy Winners:

MaryEllen Elia, Superintendent, Hillsborough County Public Schools, Reading Leader of the Year - Superintendent

Tricia Simonsen, Principal, Valrico Elementary School - Elementary School Reading Leader of the Year

Heath Beauregard, Principal, Adams Middle School - Middle School Reading Leader of the Year

Larissa McCoy-Mitti, Assistant Principal, Alonso High School - High School Reading Leader of the Year

Sandra Misciasci, Reading Teacher, Newsome High School - High School Reading Teacher of the Year
