Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with National SAM Innovation Project (NSIP) (Administration Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Last school year, 86 of the district's principals were trained in the School Administration Manager (SAM) Process. The SAM Process is a professional development process using a unique set of tools to change a principal's focus from management tasks to instructional leadership activities directly connected to improve teaching and learning. Thirty of the eighty-six principals are ready to continue their training and support for a second year. The Wallace Foundation grant will support the funding for year two of the training for the 30 principals.
The training and support provided by NSIP will allow the 30 schools to have their baseline data recollected to show growth after one year. The schools will also receive support from an on-the-ground implementation specialist who will meet with their SAM team to assess growth and progress and plan for continued improvement in supporting the principal in their instructional leadership work. The implementation of the SAM process will improve how principals spend their time, which will also improve teacher practice and student learning. The training and support will take place from December 2013 to October 2014. |
