Adoption of Proclamation Autism Spectrum Disorders Awareness Month, April 2014 (Exceptional Student Education-Instructional Support Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request the School Board adopt the attached Autism Spectrum Disorders Awareness proclamation to recognize the efforts of Hillsborough County Public Schools in effectively implementing educational practices which advance the awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Hillsborough County Public Schools currently serves almost 2,000 students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and provides these students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to maximize their overall achievement and success.  During this month, Hillsborough County Public Schools joins school districts nationally in building acceptance and highlighting the unique talents of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Hillsborough County Public Schools is proud of the hard work demonstrated by our students with these disorders, the dedication of their teachers, and the ongoing support of their families.

• Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum • Promote a culture of safety, which is free from harassment, bullying, and aggression
