SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Design Development for Modular Additions for Transportation at Two Sites (East Bay, Lois) and Expenditure for Modular Buildings
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
To provide better control and coordination, relocation of Transportation staff aligned with Administrative Areas 2 and 5 to nearby bus compounds in conjunction with the replacement of the portable facilities in which the staff are currently housed is proposed. (Replacement of the existing portable facilities housing the Area Leadership Directors and their staff is recommended in a separate agenda item.) To support the relocation, construction of new modular facilities at Lois Center (Area 2) and East Bay High School (Area 5) is recommended.

District staff combined the requirements into a single project and selected  Long & Associates Architects/Engineers, Inc. and Halfacre Construction Company from the approved Continuing Services Consultants list to provide design and construction management services.  In addition to the new modular offices, improvements to the bus parking area at East Bay High School are also included in the project scope.

Approval of design development as illustrated in the attachment will allow the design professional to proceed with construction documents. Due to the long lead time for delivery of the modular buildings, approval to acquire the modular buildings in advance of guaranteed maximum price (GMP) approval is also requested. Project completion is scheduled for August 2014.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Construction budget is $1,070,811 which includes approximately $215,000 for the modular building component.  This item is included in the District Capital Outlay: Local Millage.
