SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Grant Application Submissions Between January 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016, by the Department of Adult Education for Adult General Education Funds; Adult English Literacy/Civics Education Funds; Adults with Disabilities Funds; Farmworkers Jobs in Education Program Funds; and Career Recruitment and Instruction in Basic English (CARIBE) Funds and, if Approved, Accept all Grant Funds Generated Through Awarded Grant Applications During That Time Period (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The funding source for the Adult General Education, the Adult English Literacy/Civics, the Adults with Disabilities and the Farmworkers Jobs in Education Program is the Florida Department of Education. The CARIBE grant is funded through the Florida Department of Children and Families as an agent on behalf of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement.  Approval for accepting these entitlement grant funds through July 2016 allows completion of the current grant year and provides alignment with grant cycles going forward.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Increase promotion rates at all grade levels and the percentage of high school graduates • Motivate students to become responsible learners • Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Based on past funds awarded, grant funds received by the district for these programs totaled approximately $4.12 million during the 2014/2015 school year.  These funds are included in the respective divisional special revenue/federal programs budget.
EVALUATION
In 2013/2014, over 12,000 students participated in Adult Education/Refugee programs, which are supported by these grants. Evaluations are performed for all funded grants as required by the grant funding authority.  The Adult Education Department collaborates with the district’s Divisional Informational Services to collect required evaluation data and submits it to the funding authorities.
