Gold Star Families Monument, a Capstone Project of the Boys Preparatory Academy at Franklin Middle Magnet School (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This Capstone project is an outgrowth of the Medal of Honor social studies curriculum provided by the Medal of Honor Foundation. The monument will be a tribute to all the families in the state of Florida who have suffered the loss of a loved one serving in the military. It will memorialize the sacrifices of these loved ones and their family members.

Medal of Honor recipient, Mr. Hershel Williams, is promoting the mission to build a Gold Star Families Monument in every state in the United States. This Capstone project supports having the monument for the state of Florida constructed on the campus of the Boys Preparatory Academy at Franklin Middle Magnet School.

Students from the Boys Preparatory Academy at Franklin Middle Magnet School have conducted the research, organized a community awareness campaign, and are raising funds.  This initiative is providing the students with authentic learning experiences that will result in a final Capstone project, the monument.  The students intend to involve the community in raising the $38,000 needed to build the monument.
