EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
We are pleased to recognize Rachel Baker, Corporate Wellness Program Coordinator with BayCare and Jimmy Baumgartner, Director of Research at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital for partnering with Hillsborough County Public Schools to support and sponsor the Elementary School Running Clubs initiative.
In August 2013, the district partnered with BayCare to establish and promote Elementary School Running Clubs. A Children's Running Program training was held on February 11, 2013, to provide site facilitators with strategies and resources for maintaining developmentally appropriate youth running programs. This initiative supports healthy lifestyles for students, parents, and teachers. In addition to increased health benefits, research suggests that students receiving additional physical activity show increased brain function, higher energy and concentration levels, increased self-esteem and better behavior, which supports cognitive learning. |
