Recognition of National Medalists and Regional Gold Key Winners of the 2014 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards date back to 1923 and have celebrated the work of students in grades 7 through 12 in 28 categories.  Prior winners include notable American writers and artists such as Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen King, and Robert Redford. This year, 15 Hillsborough County Public Schools students from 4 high schools earned regional Gold Key honors advancing for review for national awards, with 3 earning recognition at the national level.

The national award winners will be celebrated on June 6, 2014, with a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Their work will be on display at Parsons New School of Art and Design.  A video highlight of the celebration will run throughout the weekend on the screens in Times Square and selected works will be published in the National Catalog and The Best Teen Writing.
