Approve the Purchase of Scholastic Big Day for Pre-K Curriculum to Support the Prekindergarten Exceptional Student Education (Pre-K ESE) Program from Scholastic, Inc. (Sole-Source Provider) (Instructional Support Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The Florida Department of Education supports the use of research-based curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and is designed to introduce children to literacy and numerous experiences that focus on teaching to the whole child as well as enhances age-appropriate progress in attaining state-adopted performance standards.
The Scholastic Big Day for Pre-K Curriculum materials have been reviewed through the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Program Curriculum Approval Process for 2013/2014. Scholastic, Inc. will provide training to all Pre-K ESE teachers to assist in the effective implementation of this curriculum. In accordance with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE), purchasing policy 6A-1.012(12)(d), commodities or contractual services available only from a single-source may be exempted from the competitive solicitation requirements. When a district believes that commodities or contractual services are available only from a single-source as specified by the FLDOE, the district may negotiate on the best terms and conditions with the single-source vendor. |

EVALUATION | |
The students in the Pre-K ESE Program will be assessed annually using the Scholastic Big Day for Pre-K Curriculum assessments, as well as the Florida Four Year-Old Standards and the Battelle Developmental Inventory-Two Screening. | |
