Approve Contract Renewal for Independence Academy Middle School Formerly Shiloh Middle Charter School | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Charter legislation includes a provision for the renewal of a charter contract for those schools that have successfully completed their contract term. On July 30, 2013, the Board approved a one-year probationary contract for Shiloh Middle Charter School during which time the school was required to take specific actions to address concerns discovered during the 2013 contract renewal review process.
Required actions were taken by the school to successfully address concerns discovered by the contract renewal review team. Attached is a board summary of the evidence of required actions based on the concerns from the 2013 renewal (Attachment 1). Staff recommends approval of a five-year contract for Independence Academy Middle School (Attachment 2). An application update including a five-year budget was submitted by the school for the 2013 contract renewal and is available in the Charter School Office. |

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes) | |
The charter school's projected enrollment of 235 students will generate $1,307,372 in Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) funds. The District retains a five percent administrative fee for up to and including 250 students ($68,809) of FEFP funds from the services provided by the District. The school also receives approximately ($92,260) in capital outlay funds from the Florida Department of Education. Costs associated with the development of the contract include district staff time and attorney fees. | |
EVALUATION | |
By June 30, 2019, Independence Academy Middle School will participate in another contract renewal process which will include but not be limited to site visits, quarterly monitoring of student achievement, monthly monitoring of financial records, and comprehensive district review. | |
