Approve the Purchase of Desktop Driving Simulators from Virtual Driver Interactive (Sole-Source Provider) (Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Since 2005, Hillsborough County Public Schools Driver Education Program has equipped 13 high schools with driving simulators. Using the simulators, students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom to a virtual hands-on environment. The simulators provide experience driving in hazardous conditions, such as on the interstate or in a thunderstorm, without putting students at risk. In addition, the simulators can provide students with more practice hours behind the wheel.
The virtual driver interactive desktop simulator is equipped with a 38" monitor, virtual hazard detection, and simple decision software. If approved, this purchase of five simulators will be provided to the district designed to enhance existing driver education programs. Virtual Driver Interactive is designated as sole-source, and owns the copyright to the desktop driving simulator. This purchase is exempt from the requesting competitive solicitations by the Florida Department of Education 6A-1.012 Purchasing Policies (11)(b). |
