Digital Citizenship Information for Students in 2014-2015 (Information and Technology Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Initiative:  In 2014-2015, the District will support the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative by ensuring that students are informed about the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior as a digital citizen with regard to technology use.

Goals: To provide technologically rich, student-centered instruction that prepares students for college and career success, while simultaneously building responsible digital citizens.

Targeted Population: All stakeholders.

Timeline: Digital Citizenship information will be presented in all schools. This includes teacher training in preplanning, a student video presented to all students during the first 30 days of school, and continued information provided by media specialists during media classes throughout the school year.

Professional/Staff Development:  All teachers were required to view the student Digital Citizenship video during preplanning. Media specialists will be working with students throughout the school year to inform them about responsible digital etiquette.

Transferability: Good digital citizenship will be generalizable to all aspects of student life. Students will learn about topics such as cyberbullying, digital footprints, self-image and identity, relationships and communication, plagiarism, internet safety, and privacy and security.

Involvement:  Good digital citizenship will be generalizable to all areas of student functioning. Students will learn about such topics as cyberbullying, digital footprints, self-image and identity, relationships and communication, plagiarism, internet safety, and privacy and security.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Promote a culture of safety, which is free from harassment, bullying, and aggression
