Approve Memorandum of Agreement for Educational Services Between the School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida and The Kimmins Terrier Foundation

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The approval of the Memorandum of Agreement for Educational Services between the School Board of Hillsborough County and The Kimmins Terrier Foundation is to provide educational services by the School District's Department of Adult Education to families enrolled at the Kimmins Terrier Foundation site located at 1502 East Second Avenue, Tampa, FL.  There is a need in the surrounding community for these program services.  The courses that will be provided are designed to meet the needs of the community, including but not limited to Adult Basic Education, General Education Diploma, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Family Literacy programs using both direct instruction and on line instructional tools.

The School Board shall pay up to $1,200 per month to the Foundation to cover fifty (50) percent of the cost of utility services to the facility, including electricity, water, sewer, and trash removal.  The Agreement shall be for an initial term of one (1) year and shall automatically renew for one (1) year terms in perpetuity or until either party provides 60 days written notice to the other of its intent not to renew.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)

Classes generate Workforce Education Fund revenues and the projected cost of $1,200 per month for utilities is included in the Adult Education divisional general operating budget.

EVALUATION

Program effectiveness will be evaluated by reviewing student learning completion points for Adult Basic Education/General Equivalency Diploma, English Speakers of Other Languages, and child contact hours for the Family Literacy program.
