Approve Purchase of Supplemental Parental Engagement and Home Education Communication Materials from Channing Bete Company, Inc. (Sole-Source Provider) (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Channing Bete resources have been selected to enhance and support English Language Learners' (ELL) parent engagement, as well as to support student academic achievement and safety.  Some of the benefits of these resources and tools include the following:

  • facilitate communication and provide a tangible reminder to connect home and school;
  • provide tools to parents on parent-teacher conferences, bullying prevention, social networking, internet safety, social-emotional stressors on students, and assisting students with the development of good study habits;
  • provide school personnel with necessary resources to discuss comprehensive topics with parents of ELL in simplified language;
  • communicate messages to people of all backgrounds, ages, and reading levels which are easy to understand and motivational; and
  • materials are available in English and Spanish.

Channing Bete Company, Inc. is designated as sole-source and is the copyright holder of all booklets, handbooks, workbooks, guides, and all Scriptographic® materials.  Therefore, this purchase is exempt from the requesting competitive solicitations by the Florida Department of Education 6A-1.012 Purchasing Policies (11) (b).

Funds of approximately $50,000 for 2014/2015 are available from the Title III Grant, Project 2761.
