Hillsborough County Public Schools 1:1 Initiative | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
This Information Item is a brief summary of our progress with the HCPS 1:1 Initiative. The goal of this Initiative is to give every student access to a fully functional, mobile computing device, but more importantly, to transform learning and teaching by creating a student-centered digital ecosystem.
We are just beginning our 1:1 journey, but we wanted to update the Board on some of our recent activities. We have formally organized the project (see the Project Organizational Chart). A Steering Committee, an Executive Sponsor, a Project Manager, and Team Leaders for 12 separate teams are all in place. Team members have been selected bringing the total number involved currently to about 150 – District staff, Administrators, Teachers, Students, and Community Members. Working with our Team Leaders, we developed a clear mission, vision, and set of principles to guide the Initiative (see the 1:1 Project Charter). We are currently in a design phase, creating a new learning model that will be the foundation for our new digital learning ecosystem. The major design decisions for our learning model are focused on Personalized, Learner-Driven, and Competency-Based approaches (see 1:1 Learning Model Design Parameters). The next step will be to create the plan to launch a pilot with a small number of sites (what we are calling Vanguard sites) in the fall of 2015. A phased rollout across the district will follow in subsequent years. |
