Approve the Expenditures for Legal Services Between the School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida and Karen C. D. Gabbadon, for Change of Placement Hearing Support Services and Employee Termination Hearings (Administration Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On July 16, 2013, the Board approved Karen C. D. Gabbadon for the legal representation in the areas of change of placements and employee termination hearings, at the hourly rate of $150 per hour.  Ms. Gabbadon was the designated primary attorney providing services to the Board under RFP 11031-DST Legal Services - Change of Placement Hearing Support Services with her previous firm, Stiles, Taylor and Grace, which no longer exists. Ms. Gabbadon is currently employed with Quintairos, Prieto, Wood and Boyer, P.A.  Ms. Gabbadon's services will commence on February 18, 2015, and continue through June 30, 2016.

Florida Department of Education 6A-1.012 (11)(a) waives "the requirement for requesting competitive solicitations for commodities or contractual services from three or more sources for the purchase by district school boards of professional services which shall include, without limitation…legal services, including attorney, paralegal, expert witness, court reporting, appraisal or mediator services ..."

Karen C. D. Gabbadon has agreed to keep the hourly rate at $150 per hour.  Year-to-date expenditures for 2014/2015 are $43,497 and were $102,058 for fiscal year 2013/2014.
