SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Continuing Education Fee, 2015/2016
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of a continuing education fee of $4.50 an hour for a variety of short-term courses designed to meet community needs. These courses may be in the areas of technical or corporate training, academic enrichment, driver education, leisure, lifestyle enhancement, or recreation. Although most classes are offered at school sites in the summer, they may be offered at a variety of venues throughout the school year.

The continuing education program is totally fee-supported and the hourly rate is based on a minimum enrollment of 15 students per class with 1 teacher. Corporate or group rates are negotiable based on the size and needs of the group and the costs associated with providing the training. The fee does not include the costs of textbooks, lab materials, consumable items, or kits that may be required in some courses. Every effort is made to keep these costs at a minimum.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Challenge and support all students with an appropriate curriculum
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Continuing education courses are financially self-sustaining. All fees collected from participating students are utilized for program costs including instructor salary and benefits, normal class supplies, and indirect costs.
EVALUATION
From July 1, 2014, to present, 1,422 students have been served through the fee-based continuing education program.  This body of courses is evaluated monthly for fiscal efficiency through a cost and revenue report.
