Assistive Technology in the Department of Exceptional Student Education (Student Services Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Initiative: The Alternative Communication/Assistive Technology (ACAT) Team provides consultation, evaluation and assistive technology to students in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) programs in Hillsborough County Public Schools. Assistive technology devices and services give students with disabilities access to their curriculum, the school, and community. This presentation will provide an overview of assistive technology services and devices and describes how assistive technology accommodations promote learning.
Goals: Assistive technology can help students with disabilities excel in the classroom to meet and exceed their academic and communication goals and become successful in the future. Targeted Population: Students with disabilities in Hillsborough County Public Schools. Timeline: Decisions on the use of assistive technology are made by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Team. Professional/Staff Development: Ongoing staff development for ESE teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and district staff. Transferability: N/A Involvement: N/A |
