Hands-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - Impacting Students in Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) and the Hillsborough County Community (Curriculum and Instruction Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Initiative: Hands-Only CPR as required instruction in the Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE) course builds the capacity of lifesavers in HCPS and the community.
Goals: For students enrolled in the HOPE course to have the knowledge, confidence, and psychomotor skills necessary to perform Hands-Only CPR. Targeted Population: This program educates approximately 12,000 students in grades 9-12 each year from all 27 high schools. Timeline: Hands-Only CPR training will be provided to HOPE course teachers and students through the 2020/2021 school year. Professional/Staff Development: HOPE course teachers will be required to take refresher training on the Hands-Only CPR curriculum. Transferability: The curriculum meets state and national standards for grades 9-12 Physical Education and Health Education, as well as those for the Language Arts Florida Standards. Involvement: The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and the American Heart Association (AHA) financially support this initiative with a grant received through the AHA. |
