Approve Fortinet Maintenance Renewal Through Mission Critical Systems, Inc. (Information and Technology Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
On April 29, 2014, the Board approved increasing the district’s data center core infrastructure using District Bandwidth Support Grant funds. The infrastructure upgrade included faster models of the Internet firewalls, content filters, security appliances, and core equipment in the district’s Data Center. The upgrades were necessary to ensure schools have adequate bandwidth capacity for the implementation and usage of instructional technology and the administration of online assessments.
Fortinet, Inc. is the manufacturer of the equipment selected to address Internet firewalls, security appliance, and content filtering. The attached maintenance renewal quote for the equipment provides 24x7 support, software updates and upgrades; technical support services; and hardware replacement in the event of failure. In order to receive the highest discount the equipment maintenance is acquired through direct negotiations with the manufacturer and assigned reseller. Acquiring computer equipment directly from the vendor is in accordance with Florida Department of Education Purchasing Rule 6A-1.012(14). Information Technology, as defined in Section 282.0041(15), F.S., is exempt from the competitive solicitation process and acquisitions may be made by direct negotiation and contract with a vendor or supplier, as best fits the needs of the school district as determined by the district School Board. |
