EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Lightning Foundation has been an instrumental partner in developing unique opportunities for our students.

  • Hock3y by the Numb3rs, sponsored by the Stantec company, is a math centered one-hour presentation which brings Florida Standards to life through hockey application.  2,900 students at 36 schools (list attached) were impacted by this program which was directed by Rick Peckham, Tampa Bay Lightning's broadcaster.
  • Score with Reading, sponsored by Bright House Networks, encourages first grade students to read during a six-week period.  Students that read over 400 minutes earned a Score with Reading bracelet and a ticket to a home game, and students that read over 800 minutes received tickets to attend two home games!
  • Chase Lightning Educator Award recognized ten schools (list attached) achieving the highest increase in Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test scores during the 2013/2014 school year.  During a home game, an educator from each school was selected to represent their staff and each received an all-inclusive VIP package to the game.
  • Tampa Bay Lightning's Broadcasting Crew, led by Matt Sammon, Director of Broadcasting, provided in-game internship opportunities to five high school students.  Each student received a behind-the-scenes media pass, two complimentary tickets to a home game, and a recording of their broadcast to add to their resumes.
  • Lightning Made Street Hockey Clinic, directed by Jay Feaster, Executive Director, Community Hockey Development, engages students in our Hillsborough Out-of-School Time program by providing them with a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math focused workbook and connecting the strategies to real life application through the hockey clinics.  Lowry Elementary School was the 2015 Cullimore Cup winner!
  • Tampa Bay Lightning Spirit Night was hosted in which $2 from every ticket purchased was donated to the Supporting Student Success (S3) fund which provides scholarship opportunities to students through technology, grants, and basic needs provision.

Additionally, the Lightning Foundation hosted both Joint Principals' Council meetings in September 2014 at the Amalie Arena.
