| Accept the Piggyback Between Multiple Vendors and Marion County Public Schools, Florida, Bid #3559AH - New and Used Books and Educational Materials (Business Division) | |
| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
| On August 30, 2011, the Board approved the piggyback of the State of Florida contract for library materials to use specifically with Barnes and Noble. We direct our end users to obtain quotes from Barnes and Noble. When quotes exceed $10,000, the Procurement Department competitively bids the books required. This practice demonstrated two consistent lower cost providers (Advanced Educational Products and Completebook.com). The savings averaged over 30 percent.
If approved, the district will be utilizing the Marion County Public Schools contract for all new book purchases previously going to Barnes and Noble. The initial term of the contract is for one year, beginning August 12, 2015, expiring August 11, 2016, and may be renewed for three additional one-year periods. Hillsborough County Public Schools will commence its use effective September 9, 2015. In accordance with the Florida Department of Education, Purchasing Policy 6A-1.012(6) in lieu of requesting competitive solicitations from three or more sources, district school boards may make purchases at or below the specified prices from contracts awarded by other city or county governmental agencies, or other district school boards. This contract may be renewed by the Superintendent, per the terms of the specifications. |
